For more than a decade, my signature citrus barbecue sauce has been a household family favorite. Every time I serve it someone tells me that I should bottle and sell this sauce. Staying on the journey to encourage people to make their own healthy food products, etc., I decided to share the recipe with you instead. Brush this tasty homemade citrus barbecue sauce on all your favorite grilled meats. It's sugar-free, sweetened with stevia to keep this a healthy and yummy sauce you'll use often. This sauce keeps well in the refrigerator since it includes lemon juice. Citrus Barbecue Sauce Deborah Tukua's Signature Recipe Excerpted from her book, Citrus, Morning, Noon & Night: A Citrus Cookbook. Ingredients: 15 ounces tomato sauce 1 teaspoon granulated garlic ½ teaspoon onion powder ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon ground mustard ⅓ cup grapefruit juice ¼ cup lemon juice 1 ½ teaspoons sea salt ½ teaspoon stevia powder (or turbinado-stevia blend, to taste) Directions: Add all ingredients to a small sauce-pot. Stir sauce over medium heat until mixture begins to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring frequently. Brush on barbecue chicken, ribs, chops, or steaks during the last few minutes of grilling or broiling. Serve extra sauce as a condiment. Tastes great in meatloaf, too. Bottle unused sauce and refrigerate. ![]() About the Author: Deborah Tukua is the editor of Journey to Natural Living.
