2012 Writer Guidelines for Article Submissions

Story Ideas and Completed Articles – We consider article ideas as well as finished articles. If your idea is accepted, the editor will work with you to develop the article to completion. You may also send in a completed article for consideration. If the story submission is a how-to-project, please advise us if you will be able to furnish photos to accompany the directions.

Length of articles– Articles should be between 500 and 1,500 words.  Videos should not exceed 5 minutes. We also welcome helpful, informative tips and recipes, which may be less than 500 words.

Video Ideas – We prefer to work with you to develop the video beforehand. You may send your video idea proposal and a sampling of a video you’ve previously made, for consideration. Videos are typically no more than 5 minutes in length.

Healthy Recipes –Send your tried-and-true recipes for consideration. When submitting, tell us if you can furnish a photo of the prepared food. You may include a food photo along with your recipe submission.

Exclusive Use of Material
– Articles submitted for consideration should not be submitted to other publications during
the review process. Writers agree not to publish an article, written or video elsewhere for three months (90 days) following publication in
Journey to Natural Living.

Nonproprietary –Articles should not mention nor promote specific products, services or companies. Articles must be
free from commercial or product-centered references.

Selection Criteria– Articles should have beneficial, “take-away” value to readers – something they can implement,
change or improve to make their lives more natural or healthy. Articles should meet selection criteria: timeliness of information, accuracy, quality of writing, appropriateness, relevance, originality, motivating and encouraging to the natural lifestyle consumer.

Editing – All submissions will be proofread and edited to conform to the magazine’s style and format and if editorial staff deems appropriate for clarity and length.

Contributor’s Agreement – Contributor gives Journey to Natural Living the right to edit, revise, retitle and adapt all article submissions as the editor/publisher deems appropriate. Your submission grants us the exclusive right and license under all copyrights throughout the world to first publish the article and to republish and authorize the republication of articles, in whole
or in part, in any and all media.

How to Submit –All submissions should be emailed to: debtukua
@journeytonatliv.com. Send articles and pictures as an attachment, not in the body of the email. The editor-in-chief of Journey to Natural Living is Deborah Tukua.

By-Line and Photograph – When submitting an article, at the close of the article, include two or three brief sentences about yourself, including credentials, experience, etc.  as it relates to the article topic, your company and title, and any contact information you would like published, such as your website, email address, phone number or facebook page. If your article is accepted for publication, we will inform you by email. At that time, we will request a head-and-shoulders color photograph of you, to publish with the article.

Submitting a Book for Review – If you are the author of a book and would like us to consider reviewing it in our magazine, mail a  copy of the book to:
Journey to Natural Living, Attn: Deborah Tukua, 198 Moore Road, Iron City, TN 38463. Books will not be returned. Editor reserves the right to review books as it deems appropriate. See General Departments and Topics page, to determine if your book is a good fit, before mailing it to us.
